Are you ready?

2 more Mondays . . .

Back in April, having of a quarter of the school year being reduced to a handful of Mondays gave us the little spring in our step to finish another school year strong. And here we are, just 2 Mondays away from a clean slate, a fresh start, another chance to show everyone your intelligence, work-ethic, drive, passions, personality; your character. Are you ready?

Are you ready to be a part of a team? To put your individual skills towards a common goal? The most commonly heard excuse for not joining choir is "I am not a great singer." Perhaps you think we make all the new members stand up on a stage and sing (alone) for Simon, Randy, Paula, Howie, Heidi, and Mel B to judge. You are joining a choir, not entering a singing competition! Being in a choir means learning to blend, not only with your section, but with the entire ensemble. It means learning healthy vocal production; singing in unison, two-part, three-part, and more.

Are you ready to work? Superior choral-singing does not happen without a tireless work ethic. Being in choir means you will be expected to practice, not just with your section or the choir on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but on your own at home, on the way to school, on your way to hang-out at Wawa (which, by the way, I will never understand). Remember, the easy way is not necessarily the right way. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Are you ready to learn? Of course we learn new music, but more importantly we are learning how to make that music! Sight-singing - being able to sing a previously unknown piece of music without help from a piano or vocal example - is essential to our success. Brush up on your Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, and Ti . . .

Are you ready to create, to perform, to enrich, and to inspire? Are you ready to raise the standards for excellence in choral music at Howell Middle School South? Are you ready to lead? I hope so!
